Why we don't use dragees or silver ball....

Silver French Dragees (pronounced Dra-jeys) are those little metallic balls that we all remember on holiday cookies. They are safe to eat, but should be removed before serving because of the real metal coating. (That means they won't hurt you if you eat them, they do have a sugar center, it's just that the FDA has recommended that they are for decorative use only, and they are technically not a food item). They do add a beautiful and elegant look to wedding cakes, birthday cakes and holiday items

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration considers the metallic-finish dragées to be inedible, and are sold with a notice that they are for decorative purposes only. Early in the 20th century, the silver finish may have contained mercury (it does not now). The sale of these dragées was banned for some time. Although the metallic-finish dragées can be purchased in 49 U.S. states, they are no longer sold in California due to a 2003 lawsuit against several sellers.[2] However in other countries (including the United Kingdom) they are classed as food items.

Taken from various sites and while my hubby in overseas, he did some surveys on the dragees from various brands and all of them are contains gelatin from pork origin clearly stated, especially from UK. Do Malaysia make their own dragees or imported?. As halal logos were being abused nowadays, be careful...

This particularly on silver or metallic..not on pearl type which it can be found in halal form.
